Beyonce Jazz Scat + Déjà Vu

Music Concepts of Jazz

Duration: The time signature is 4/4 but I think there are some parts which contain 8 quavers because of its tempo.

There are many back up instruments to the vocals and the drum keeps the rhythm firm. The tempo is upbeat.

Pitch:  Well it starts with the drums and the melody is repetitive and the singer improvises to the audience with many harmonies in the instruments. The sound of the whole band is low pitched slowly drifting higher.

Structure: There are many variations in this theme of jazz. Its melody played by trumpets and the piano.

The piece begins with drums followed then by piano, vocals and trumpet. The bass is played as well. There is also a saxophone too.

Texture: There are many layers in this piece. It is very thick with many improvisations by the team of musicians.

Dynamic and Expressive techniques: It is mainly loud but some soft parts played instrumentally and there is a vocal technique which the artist uses I think it’s called melisma. The mood is very swingy because it changes rhythm with short notice from soft to loud. And there is a lot of detached note.

Tone Colour: The performing media contains a solo singer, supported by jazz orchestra featuring wind and percussion instruments and also the piano. The orchestra is hardcore jazzy and loud.
